Farro (spelt) is a small manufacturing firm. It was founded in 2007 and it manufactures pillows, mattresses for cribs and small beds, all filled with organic spelt husks.
Actually, I should have named
my firm ‘spelt husk’. Spelt is widely known as part of the cereal grains, but
only a few people know that spelt husk makes a good organic pillow filling. The
spelt contained in these pillows is not chemically treated, a feature that
makes the product hygienic, comfortable and therapeutic. As a consequence,
organic spelt pillows have been recognized as medical equipment by the medical
community.
The spelt used in the pillow filling comes from Italian agricultural companies which have obtained the European Organic Certification for their products.
The production process allows spelt husks to remain whole and hollow, therefore air is able to penetrate and create tiny air-bubbles that improve the elasticity features of this type of pillow filling. As a consequence, spelt husk guides every movement of the body, helps muscles relax, boosts blood circulation towards body tissues, joints and organs.
Thanks to their porosity, spelt filled pillows are moisture and heat regulating. Spelt is dust-mite resistant both because of its natural characteristics and because it is cryogenically treated, hence spelt filled pillows can be used also by allergy sufferers. Moreover, it has been proven that spelt has analgesic properties.
Lavender or chamomile flowers are also added to the spelt filling because their scents help the body relax. The flowers’ scents don’t last long, I suggest pouring a couple drops of your favourite essential oil on the pillow case, don’t be concerned about stains: pure essential oil does not stain cotton fabrics.
